Contract Modeler

Modernizing contract modeler to support large-scale value-based care adoption

Project overview

Our problem

Value based care contracting involves complex models, hard to digest data, and the need for multiple, cross-functional subject matter experts to translate and verify potential risks and rewards. Although both Health Systems and Payers are motivated to reach a common understanding of the risks and benefits, the relationship between the two has historically been contentious and the road to alignment and trust is long and challenging. Contract Modeler solves painpoints for some of the biggest barriers on the road to adopting and operationalizing value-based reimbursement programs — getting into a value agreement in the first place.

My role

I led research, concept ideation, and design for the initial MVP, which launched in Q1 of 2021. Three years later (after working on other parts of our platform) I led research and design for v2 of this product, which included a visual design system overhaul, updates to the information architecture, establishing new core functionality, and supporting a full technical platform redesign, which launched in Q3 2024.

Our impact

At the time that the MVP launched, it was the second product line to join our value platform and facilitated >130 signed contracts covering 28k lives, significant reductions in contracting time, and resulting post-MVP products. It represented Nuna’s first foray into answering the question of how we could make an impact upstream of performance reporting and became the foundation of the “Program Development” pillar of our enterprise platform.

The 2024 redesign and product expansion, in addition to adding core functionality, reduced time to completion of key tasks by 66% and increased the percentage of FAQs network managers can independently answer without actuarial or analyst involvement from 46% to 100%.
